What I've been up to...

Goodness me, we have been busy...

So, I have been neglecting my blog for quite some time but
soon you will see what I've been up too...

Here are some of the things i've been making...

Well its slowly approaching christmas and I wanted to be prepared,
so i've started on my christmas container candles. Here is the
beginnings of some merry mistletoe candles.

With birthdays coming up I need to re-stock my bath bombs so
I made a small batch of fruity heart foaming fizzers.

As a member of the soaping 101 group on facebook, I was so happy to be
able to enter these, my first cold process soap cupcakes into their
cupcake challenge.

A new batch of whipped body butter with a gorgeous english rose fragrance.
Packed with goodness it contains shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil
and vitamine E oil.

One definatly for the boys here, a large handful of skull soap!

I love christmas cake so when I started thinking about making a soap
in the same colours I couldnt stop myself and got soaping! I'm so
chuffed with how it turned out, and it smells amazing!

This soap was nearly a disaster but it turned out just fine, and did I
mention it also smells awesome! Bursting with a rhubarb and
raspberry fragrance, filled with melt and pour embeds,
sprinkled with sugar shperes and finished with glitter.

Turkish delight and cedarwood fragrenced soap, I little
experiment with some very random colours, I like it!

Shea Butter

Moisturizing Qualities

Shea butter is prized as a moisturizer. It contain fatty acids, which improve skin moisture retention and elasticity. Both are effective in easing skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis.

Skin Repair and Health

Shea butter is a good source of vitamins A and E, which strengthen your skin and help it repair damage. A 2009 study found that the caffeic acid in shea butter reduced the damaging effects of UV radiation. In addition, shea butter
contains cinnamic acid: a 2010 study found that it could repel both inflammation and tumors.

Acne, Stretch Marks and Scars

For acne-prone skin, shea butter is a wiser choice than cocoa butter. Cocoa butter will clog your pores, according to a report by Beneficial Botanicals. Shea butter is non-comedogenic, meaning your pores will stay clear. It may also help reduce the appearance of acne scars, because its antimicrobial properties can fight off infections.

An Interesting Read...

5 Benefits of Handmade Soap.

1. Made With Natural Ingredients

Conventional soaps available in stores today are not really soaps at all, but detergents made with synthetic fragrances and other chemicals. These ingredients tend to leave your skin feeling dry, itchy and tight.  Handcrafted soap, on the other hand, is made with a variety of natural ingredients, fragrance and oils that are known to lock in moisture and hydrate the skin.  Most handcrafted soap makers are also respectful of nature by not testing their products on animals.

2. Offers Healing & Curative Properties

Handcrafted soap often contains healing properties due to the lack of chemicals in the ingredients.  Because handcrafted soap is made with natural ingredients obtained from plants, trees, herbs and flowers, their essential oils contain healing and curative properties in addition to natural aromatic fragrances.  When such essential oils are added to these soaps, common skin disorders like acne, eczema and psoriasis can be treated.

3. Contains Anti-Oxidants

The skin is the largest human organ as well as the body’s first line of defence against dehydration, weather changes, infection and harmful substances.  Handcrafted soap gives your skin the care it deserves by gently cleansing and locking in moisture.  It also provides liberal amounts of Vitamin E oil and wheat germ oil, as well as dollops of natural and essential oils like coconut and jojoba.  These oils have anti-oxidants in high amounts, which lend a longer shelf life and a balancing effect to the skin complexion.

4. Contains the Natural Humectant Known as “Glycerin”

Handcrafted soap contains glycerin, a bi-product obtained naturally through the saponification process.  Glycerin is what creates the lovely, silky, lathering feel that moisturises the skin. The commercial soap manufacturers typically eliminate glycerin when manufacturing soap, which is what causes the skin to dry out.

5. Is Simply Luxurious To Look At

Perhaps the most appealing factor about handcrafted soaps is that they are gorgeous pieces of art.  These soaps often have unique shapes and intricate designs with exquisite swirls and colours.  Depending on the fragrance, some soap will even be embedded with chunks of flowers or oatmeal.

Mandarin Madness!

Mandarin Madness

A combination of olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and palm oil. If that wasn't enough this luxurious soap is infused with pure tussah silk. It bursts with a fruity red mandarin fragrance oil to stir the sences. At silvercrystals we love to try new things so we've adding some of our very own freshly dried peel for decoration, accompanied with a sprinkling of blue poppy seeds.
